Shakta Agamas
In the Shakta Agamas Devi, not just as divine mother, but as the ultimate non-dual reality, beyond form and gender. Unlike other traditions that treat God as masculine, the Shakta Agamas begin with Shakti as Brahman itself, the Supreme Consciousness and Creative Power in one.
In the Shakta tradition, Mantra, Yantra, and Tantra are considered three limbs of the same living goddess. Mantra is her Voice, Yantra her Body, and Tantra her Breath, together they form the full experience of the Divine Feminine.
The Sri Chakra is central to Shakta worship, it is not a geometric diagram but a map of your inner consciousness. According to the Bhavana Upanishad, the Sri Chakra reflects the human body, each triangle, petal, and circle corresponds to a part of your energy system.
Shakta Agamas and Tantras present a vast, profound, and experiential system of divine union through Shakti. These scriptures blend:
- Mantra
- Yantra
- Kundalini Yoga
- Puja and Homa
- Philosophy of Non-Dual Shaktism (especially in Sri Vidya and Kaula)
Whether it is through Kali Kula, Sri Vidya, or Yogini Tantra, the ultimate goal is the realization of Devi as the Atma and liberation while living that is jivanmukti.
In the Shakta Tantras Shakti is the Supreme Consciousness, she is not just a consort of Shiva but Adyashakti
Major Shakta Tantras
- Rudra Yamala Tantra – A foundational text in both Shaiva and Shakta traditions, rich in rituals, Mahavidya worship, and left-hand practices.
- Kularnava Tantra – The cornerstone text of Kaula Shaktism; deals with diksha, guru-sisya lineage, inner alchemy, and Shakti sadhana.
- Brahmayamala Tantra (Picchila Tantra) – Explores fierce forms of Shakti, left-hand rituals, and goddess-centered initiation.
- Vamakeshvara Tantra It is associated with Sri Vidya tradition and worship of Tripura Sundari, detailing the Sri Chakra puja and internal yogas.
- Tantraraja Tantra – Focuses on Sri Vidya worship, kundalini awakening, and meditative realization of Devi.
- Yogini Tantra – Sacred to worship of Yoginis and Dasha Mahavidyas, especially in Eastern India and Nepal.
- Varahi Tantra – Dedicated to Goddess Varahi, a fierce tantric form of Lakshmi or Devi.

Sri Vidya Tantra
Sri Vidya is the most refined expression of Shakta Tantra, worshipping Lalita Tripura Sundari via the Sri Chakra.
- Tripura Rahasya – Philosophical and yogic text revealing the highest truth of the Divine Mother.
- Lalita Sahasranama (from Brahmanda Purana) – Thousand names of the Goddess, forming a central part of daily worship.
- Saundarya Lahari – Composed by Adi Shankaracharya; contains verses of deep spiritual and energetic resonance.
- Prapanchasara Tantra – Describes mantra science, yantra, and deity meditation.
- Shyama Rahasya / Shyama Saptashati – For worship of Shyama/Kali in a refined Sri Vidya context.
- Parashurama Kalpasutra – Ritual manual for Sri Vidya sadhana
Shakta Upanishads
These are important Upanishads focused on the worship of Devi:
- Tripura Upanishad – Reveals the inner yoga and metaphysics of Tripura Sundari.
- Bhavana Upanishad – Explains Sri Chakra as the human body – central to Sri Vidya.
- Devi Upanishad – Declares Devi as the supreme non-dual Brahman.
- Kaula Upanishad – Focuses on the esoteric path of Kaula Tantra.
- Sarasvati Rahasya Upanishad – Wisdom-centered Shakti worship.

While not Agamas, several Puranas support Shakta Tantra through myth, mantra, and rituals:
- Devi Bhagavata Purana – Primary scripture for Devi worship; declares Devi as the Ultimate Reality.
- Kalika Purana – Associated with Kamakhya and Tantra worship of Kali and Kamakhya Devi.
