In the Ramayana, Sita is found in a furrow of the earth, walks through fire in Lanka, and years later returns into the earth itself. Read literally, it is a story of trial. Read tantrically, it is a map of energy.
Tantra sees Sita as Shakti, the active power, and Rama as Purusha, witnessing consciousness. Her story becomes the journey of Kundalini, the coiled energy that sleeps at the base of the spine and seeks to rise.
1. Earth: The Origin in Muladhara
Sita is Ayonija, not born of a womb. Janaka finds her while ploughing. She belongs to Bhudevi, Mother Earth, from the start.
This is Muladhara, the root chakra. Element: earth. Stability, belonging, rootedness. Kundalini sleeps here, inseparable from source.
Exile and abduction violently uproot this base. Shakti is torn from her secure ground, and the journey begins.
2. Fire: The Trial in Manipura
After the war, Sita enters the pyre in Agni Pariksha. Agni does not burn her. He returns her radiant.
This is Manipura, the navel chakra. Element: fire. Tapas, transformation, radiance. In yoga, fire does not create purity, it reveals it. What is true shines brighter.
Rama watches without intervening. In tantra this is Sakshi bhava, the witness. Like Shiva beholding Shakti, consciousness creates space rather than grasping. It cannot validate energy, only witness its self revelation.
3. Return to Earth: Laya, Not Defeat
Years later, asked to prove herself again in Ayodhya, Sita refuses another trial. She calls to her mother and the earth opens to receive her.
Kundalini is meant to rise to meet Shiva at the crown in union. Here union remains incomplete. Rama, bound by his dharma as king, stays the distant witness. He cannot fully receive her as husband while acting as ruler.
So Shakti performs laya, conscious dissolution. Not punishment or escape, but sovereignty. The energy revealed in fire chooses earth over endless testing.
Fire was revelation. Earth is resolution.
What this offers leaders
Do not manufacture fire ordeals. If trust needs repeated public proof, the root is already lost. Safety is built in Muladhara, not in tests.
Learn to witness. Hold the container, stay present, let competence reveal itself without constant certification.
Understand withdrawal. When grounded people quietly leave, it is Shakti returning to source. Energy withdraws where doubt persists.
Sita’s arc is earth to fire, and when witnessing turns into doubting, back to earth by choice.
What do you need more now: steady witnessing or rebuilding trust?

[…] In the stillness of Shiva, there is a breath, and she is Devi. We often picture them as two beings on Kailash. The deeper vision is more intimate. Shiva is vast, silent awareness. Devi is that silence beginning to move and breathe. Without her, he is Shava, the still one. With her, he is Shiva, the living one. Where Stillness Learns to Breathe, In Kashmir Shaivism and Shakta Tantra, the universe is not built like a house. It is breathed like a living body. Shiva is Prakasha, pure light of consciousness. Devi is Vimarsha, the self awareness of that light. That first pulse is Spanda, the throb, subtle like the moment before you inhale. When she exhales, forms appear. When she inhales, they dissolve. Creation is her breathing, happening now. Devi is not beside Shiva. She is his aliveness made visible. The Breath as Mother, Call her Prana Shakti, the vital air of the Absolute. Just as your body goes still without breath, Shiva is still without Devi. Her exhale is Srishti, emanation. Her pause is Sthiti, sustenance. Her inhale is Samhara, reabsorption. In the Devi Mahatmya she is Mahamaya, in the Saundarya Lahari Shiva moves only with Shakti, in Maharashtra she is simply Aai. To Worship the Breath, When you watch your breath in meditation, you touch the rhythm by which Devi creates worlds. Let Shiva be the stillness within, Devi the breath rising through it. With each exhale, feel life blooming. With each inhale, feel it gathered back. You are not a stranger waiting for grace. You are a ripple in her exhalation. To honor her is to breathe with awareness, to speak with kindness, to create without fear. Shiva dreams in silence. Devi breathes, and the dream becomes the world. […]
