In Tantra, the body is not a metaphor for the cosmos. It is the cosmos, folded inward. And at the
fold is nabhi, the navel.
The outer scar, the inner wheel The sthula umbilical cord is visible only for a season. It feeds, then it is cut, leaving the navel as a closed eye.
The sukshma cord is never cut. At the navel sits Manipura, the City of Jewels, seat of samana vayu,
the prana that digests not only food but experience. The rishis call nabhi the central knot where the currents of ida, pingala and sushumna first learned to separate. To touch it in awareness is to touch the place where you were once breathed by another.
Tantric texts map this region as a ten-petalled lotus holding the bija ram. It is the furnace where sacred will is forged before it can rise as love.
Padmanabha seen from within
The Puranic image of Padmanabha now becomes an inner vision. Vishnu sleeping on the causal waters is consciousness at rest. From his nabhi rises the lotus stalk, the Brahma nadi within sushumna. Brahma seated on the lotus is mind awakening upon it.
What the devotee sees outside as myth, the tantric feels inside as movement: a luminous cord of
nada rising from the navel center toward the heart lotus, then the throat, then the brow. Creation is not a past event. It is the breath you are taking now.
Devi as the Uncut Cord
In Shakta Tantra, Devi is not merely the mother who cuts the cord. She is the Cord Herself. As Kundalini Shakti, coiled at muladhara, She is the remnant of that first connection, grown subtle. The physical mother nourished the belly. The Divine Mother nourishes the sushumna. While the outer cord carried blood, the inner cord carries ojas, tejas and finally ananda.
This is why She is called Jagadamba and also Chit-Shakti. She binds with maya and liberates with
vidya. Her knife is not cruel, but the midwife’s compassion: it cuts what must be cut so what cannot be cut may be seen.
Your outer navel closed so your inner navel could open.
The three granthis and return
Sadhana speaks of three knots: Brahma granthi at the navel, Vishnu granthi at the heart, Rudra
granthi at the brow. The visible cord passed through none of them, it was flesh. The invisible cord must pierce them all.
Practice is reversal. In nabhi dharana, the yogi rests attention at the navel center, feeling the subtle pulsation as Devi Herself breathing in deep stillness.
I was never abandoned at birth. The Mother only changed the medium of Her feeding, from
blood to breath, from breath to mantra, from mantra to silence.
Close your eyes. Place awareness at the navel. Feel the throb there, like lotus stalk swaying in
dark waters. Follow it upward with listening, not imagination. That listening
is the new umbilical cord, and it leads to Her with still mind.

[…] I see now what that fire was for. It burned up the negotiator in me, the part that was still askingsociety for entry. Once that part was gone, Shakti did not ask anymore. She rose. When Shakti calls, She just rises. She does not stop. […]
[…] Have you ever met someone for the first time and felt an undeniable pull, as if your soul recognized them before your mind registered who they are? You sit down for coffee or step into a meeting room, and withinminutes there is no need to perform, no guard to maintain. The usual social friction simply melts away. It feels less like meeting someone new and more like resuming a conversation paused long ago. Tantra’s deepest cut: what you felt was not introduction. It was recognition. […]
