The Goddess Who Is Seen and the Tantra That Is Not

Some vidyas allow to be photographed, others withdraw when seen directly. Our age cherishes the first and has forgotten the second.

Durga: the mula tantra

Before the Mahavidyas, there is Durga as tantra, not festival murti.

Esoterically the Saptashati is yantra in sound. Kavacha builds the body, Argala locks the door, Kilaka removes the nail that blocks phala, Rahasyas reveal which goddess wakes in which charitra. Navarna sits inside like seed in fruit.

Old kulas called it stronger. A Mahavidya can give siddhi. Durga Tantra rebuilds the adhara itself, doing shanti, pushti, samhara in one krama. It asks for vrata, brahma muhurta patha, a guru who has done purashcharana. That is weight, not hype.

Mahavidya: the hyped veil

The Mahavidyas are ancient and tender. What is new is their circulation.

Ugra devata needs ugra adhikara. Kali, Tara, Chinnamasta, Dhumavati were kept in rahasya because their fire burns unprepared nadis. Today one reel gives one mantra and the seeker feels he knows her.

This is Mahamaya playing with Yogmaya. Mantra is given, devata is not. Without nyasa, bhuta shuddhi, kula achara to hold the voltage, nama remains shabda, not shakti. People love her fierceness, but fierceness was never the teaching. The teaching was the stillness behind it, which cannot be posted.

The hype is not the fault of the Goddesses. It is the outer avarana letting the curious touch the image so the serious ask for the method.

Vishnu: the most hidden tantra

More hidden is Vishnu Tantra.

Pancaratra, Vaikhanasa, Ahirbudhnya and Lakshmi Tantra do not speak of smashana. They speak of vyuha, how Narayana becomes Vasudeva, Sankarshana, Pradyumna, Aniruddha, and how temple becomes body. Garbhagriha is muladhara, vimana is sushumna.

It never sought the marketplace. It lived with hereditary archakas, agamic diksha, temple nitya. To learn it you had to serve, not subscribe. So Mahavidya became famous, Vishnu Tantra became invisible, though its krama is as precise as any Kali krama.

Lakshmi does not come where there is noise. Vishnu hides his tantra inside order itself.

Why we forgot

We forgot because the container broke. Joint family broke, so kula achara broke. Sanskrit broke, so Saptashati became parayana without angas. Guru shishya became online, so diksha became download. Modern life values quick explanation. Tantra values what is transmitted slowly.

One mantra does not make a knower. Mantra is given last, not first. First shuddhi of anna, vak, drishti. Then capacity to hold.

Return is not rejection of Mahavidyas. It is return to krama. Learn Durga with her limbs. Approach Mahavidya only when the base is steady and with one who walks it. Honor Vishnu Tantra by serving a tradition, even by temple seva.

The hidden does not advertise. It waits for who knocks without a camera.
